Billboard music charts
Billboard is famous for covering music, movies and ringtones. It was in 1884 that Billboard magazine was launched. By 1914 the magazine built-in the first chart – the count down of popular songs that were heard in Vaudevil theaters was included in it. In 1930 when jukebox was invented, Billboard began by charting popular music. In the year 1936 Billboards came up with a new feature in their magazine “Chart Line”. Song that were played the most on radio networks were listed here. Gradually, by 1940 it also began including the Best Selling Record Charts. Thus began Billboard’s journey in charting music. Billboard continues to maintain its presence felt in the music industry even today. Billboard.com is accessed by 4.1 million people every month. Their radio programs, American Country Countdown and American Top 40 broadcast the result of both national and international music charts. Billboard also has a number of Country Music charts, some of which includes Hot country songs – the popularity on this music chart is calculated on the basis of weekly airplay and sales made. Top country recurrents – it plays those songs that have continuously remained for 20 weeks on the Hot Country songs chart and subsequently slipped down to No. 50. Billboard music chart has succeeded in establishing many artists, albums and songs. George Jones has the maximum number of hits. Late singer Eddy Arnold has the credit of holding the most top 10 singles. The following three songs – Hank Snow’s ‘I’m moving on’ , Eddy Arnold’s ‘I’ll hold you in my heart and Webb Pierce ‘In the Jailhouse’ have remained at the No. 1 spot for the longest period of time i.e. for 21 weeks. Currently, to track the sales of albums, DVD’s videos and singles, Billboard uses the Nielsen Soundscan system. This system notifies when purchases are made at registered Soundscan stores. Another system known as Broadcast Data systems is used by Billboard to follow radio airplay. These detections are totaled up every week which in turn helps in determining airplay points. This formula is used by all Billboard music charts. The chart is separated on the basis of station and stores used by each chart – as every musical genre has a retail group or core audience. At Billboard there is a chart manager for every department who makes necessary decisions after all verifications. Of all Billboards’ music charts Billboard 200 and Hot 100 are very popular. Billboard also has music charts that cover different styles of music; country, bluegrass, R&B, electronic, pop, rock, dance, Latin, jazz, classical comedy albums, Christian albums and ringtones are some of them.

Canadian music charts
Canadian music charts are amazing but many of us do not seem to be aware of this fact. This ignorance is because of the cultural similarities between Canada and its neighboring countries. Some of the favorite Canadian bands are Winnipeg, Weakerthans and Manitoba. Weakerthans won the 2001 Canadian Grammy (Juno) for their album ‘Left and Leaving’ Ask someone on the street to name some Canadian musicians and you will hear names like Shania Twain, Neil Young, Celine Dion and Neil Young. Though they are talented in their own way, they do not symbolize the depth and breadth of Canadian music. Pop sensation Avril Lavigne is very popular in the US. Besides Avril Lavigne there is Rush and Alanis Morrisette who transcended national boundaries and turned international. When it comes to fresh and exciting music Canadian Musicians and Canadian music charts have offered plenty to the world. Songwriter Dan Behar excels in putting a comical spin on his songs, hence he is known as the most hilarious musicians. Neko Case a female songwriter and singer has showcased her incredible writing skills and vocal range in ‘Fox Confessor Brings the Flood’. She has contributed a lot to Canadian music. Contemporary Canadian rock would be incomplete without Nickelback. With super hits like ‘How you remind me’ and ‘Photograph’ he remains the most successful Canadian artist in the last few years. Shaker is another Ontario based artist who looks quite promising. Nelly Furtado efforts have always been impressive, he latest being ‘Loose’. Furtado continues to explore new avenues with her good looks and songwriting. Among the hip-hop group ‘Blood Music’ by Dead Celebrity Status has got good reviews. Canadian singers have paced ahead in the last several years in country music too. Kathleen Edwards with her dusky voice has been outstanding. She won critical acclaim for ‘Back to Me’ which was released in 2005. It wouldn’t be just without mentioning the irrepressible K.D. Lang. Her amazing vocal skill has been used in everything right from country to pop songs. Her versatility is legendary and the list of Canadian musicians would remain incomplete without her. Diana Krall and Sue Foley have extraordinary musical talents. Foley is a songwriter, singer and a blues guitarist. She has managed to amaze Koko Taylor, B. B. King and Buddy guy with her guitar playing skill and unusual quality of voice. On the other hand Diana Krall is able to enchant people with her hypnotizing sound. Canadian music charts would become poor without these talents. It is these talented artists who compose song and top the Canadian music charts.

House music charts

House music charts
Melodic beats and catchy lyrics about life and love are the characteristic features of house music charts. It is a product of the discos and the warehouses of the eighties. Many are not aware of this because it is not a musical genre. Frankie Knuckles, Louie Vega and Andre Hatchett are considered the best dj’s of this genre. House music succeeded funk, soul and disco. Of all these genres house music has a deep live-sounding touch. Bass lines and samples from funk, soul and pop songs are normally used in house music. House music enthusiasts in Chicago are called house heads. House music parties are held in the basement of the house or in the lounge. Such parties are attended by people who like listening to music that gushes through the body. Top house music charts are played at this party. The credit for bringing this musical funk to Chicago goes to Farley Jackmaster Funk. Dj’s at these well-attended parties spin popular house music charts. These parties are held at three venues in Chicago. The first is ‘The Dating Game’ venue on the quaint South side of Chicago. Only adults in their late 20′s and early 40′s are allowed. People who attend such parties come to relax and enjoy the flow of music. The tempo played is around 120 -135 bpm. Vizions is another venue located near 8038 South Ashland Avenue in Chicago. It is not a very pleasant place to attend. It is Andre Hatchett who plays dj here. The deejay’s at the Crocodile Lounge play a mixture of disco music and old school music. The crowd here comprises of business entrepreneurs and urban professionals. Many of the music enthusiasts who come here come from far off places. These disco nights take you to a completely different place and mesmerize you. Chicago house music is not a common phenomenon and it is not know to people in the other parts of the country. All these three venues are centrally located in Chicago and are a must visit if you love music. Dance away to the beats of house music charts, the music continues to stay in the mind even after it has stopped. House music parties are not meant for those who get annoyed and distracted by loud music. If you find the environment terrible to make conversations then this place is not meant for you. It is the younger crowd who find such parties fascinating. At 17 you may find the pounding of the walls cool and relaxing. As we get older we look forward to hear relaxing tunes that will not damage our ear drums.
